Catechism Day 2019: Parish Catechism Children

On Saturday, 23rd February 2019, the catechism children of St.Dominic Church, Ashoknagar along with the Sunday catechism teachers organized ‘Catechism Day-2019’with great enthusiasm. Celebration of the ‘Holy Eucharist’ by Fr. Gratian Alvares and the mass liturgy and choir led by the children and teachers was the beginning of the day’s programme. Fr. Gratian Alvares gave a beautiful message on the scriptures of the day and the importance of catechism in children’s lives. He highlighted the birth growth and development of faith formation in one’s life.

After the mass snacks were served for children followed by the cultural program held in the church hall. The programme began with a prayer dance led by 7th std children along with other class children. A tribute to our recent ‘Martyr Soldiers’ at Pulwana on 14th February was given by the children and parishioners by lighting the candles and a silent prayer while a group of children danced for a patriotic song on the stage.

Cultural activities consisted of action songs by the children of lower 3 classes followed by 5th 6th &7th std children presented a song based on the rich man and poor Lazarus with their melodious voices while 8th std children enacted biblical dance based on two biblical parables such as parable of the sower and parable of the talents. A biblical play of ‘ Ananiya and Safeera’ was enacted by 4th & 9th std children. Neeha Rodrigues and Shania D’souza of 10th std shared their 10 years of rich experiences of Catechesis. Anson D’Souza and Jean Lobo of Y.C.S expressed the merits of learning the catechism and how the values of life are inculcated and how does it helped in their character formation.

Fr. Gratian Alvares the day’s chief guest in his address congratulated all the students and catechism teachers. He distributed the prizes to the top scorers in the exam.

Fr. Aquin Noronha O.P, the parish priest in his presidential address thanked all the teachers for their selfless service and dedication to form the children in faith. He appreciated the talents of children and wished them all the best in their future studies. He also distributed prizes for the children who secured 100% attendance in the catechesim clesses.

All the catechism teachers, Mrs. Rosy D’Souza, Juliana Crasta, Sr. Anitha, Icy Lobo, Lavina D’silva, Joan Vas, Stella Ferrao, Silvia D’costa, Benedict Veigas, Y.C.S. animators Mrs. Debora Locker and Mr. Suraj Nunez, Altar servers animator Sr. Jyothi were felicitated with a bouquet of flowers.

Mr. Aaron Pinto welcomed the gathering. Miss. Iral and Mr. Vinol D’Souza were the masters of ceremony. Miss. Diana D’Souza proposed vote of thanks. The programme concluded by singing the hymn to St. Diminic, the Patron saint of St. Dominic Church.
