Mission Sunday Celebration At Our Parish

Mission Sunday was celebrated in St. Dominic Church, Ashoknagar on the 20th of October. Weeks ahead of this, the ward Gurkars/representatives distributed calendars and envelopes to all the families to enable them to contribute their mite for this noble cause and also collected the old mission boxes from the children.

The Parish thanked the Lord for his presence and strength for the mission during the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Praveen Monteiro OP at 8 am on 20th Sunday. In the evening the entire parish community gathered together in the parish hall where a cultural program along with fund raising activity was organised. Sale of various food items like Chicken sukka, Pork bafath, Sorpathel, Idlies, Sandwiches, Chicken roll, Juice, cupcakes, tea/coffee etc. Rates of each item were displayed and coupons were sold in advance. The parishioners responded well to purchase the coupons in time and extended their full co-operation and support.

The dinner for the evening as well as the other food items on sale was managed by St. Dominic association who took the initiative to help Mr. Anil Pinto (Pinto caterers) in cutting the meat, vegetables and other items needed.

Auction of items donated by the parishioners viz: electronic gadgets, wine, paintings vegetables, bananas, eggs, attractive handmade rosaries and embroidery work helped in raising good amount of funds. Live cocks added a lot of attraction to the auction sale. Besides the song request programme was very entertaining and generated good collection. The Parish children and elders sang inspiring as well as sentimental songs which was sponsored at Rs. 500/- each.

Two beautiful classical dances were performed by Miss Gautami, a non Christian girl from St. Dominic A ward. Good sponsors turned up both for songs and the auction. These events were conducted by the Parish ICYM youth. Besides this Housie Housie, guessing the chocolates were conducted to add revenue to the mission Sunday collections.

Parish YCS group under the animation of Mrs. Deborah Locker and Mr. Suraj Nunes have sold over 700 cup cakes prepared by Mrs. Deborah Locker. They also put up a stall to sell organic and seed based pens, pencils, notepads, cloth bags and raised funds for mission Sunday.

The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha OP along with the assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Royston Lobo thanked all the organisers and participants for their whole hearted support in making this event a successful one for a noble cause.

With the financial support of the Parishioners (by selling of food coupons, mission envelops, mission boxes by children, Sunday collection) we were able to collection nearly 3 Lakhs rupees for the mission. Through the prayers of Mother Mary and St. Dominic may almighty God bless us and our church.
