Independence Day Celebration

The St Dominic Church ICYM Ashoknagar Unit in collaboration with YCS celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm on 15 August 2026, following the Holy Mass at 7:30 a.m. After the Holy Mass, a short programme was organised for the parishioners. The parishioners were requested to stand in lines, and the dignitaries were marched and escorted to the stage. The Chief Guest, Mr. Fredrick Fernandes, Ex-Indian Air Force, along with the Director Fr. Daniel Veigas, Assistant Director Fr. Meckenzie Mendonca, Parish Council Vice President Mr. Isaac Furtado, Parish Council Secretary Mrs. Meera Mendonca, and Coordinator of 21 Commissions Mrs. Flavy Lobo, were escorted to the stage.

The programme was compered by Gleyona Mendonca and began with a prayer song sung by the ICYM and YCS members. The ICYM President, Mr. Melroy D’Souza welcomed all the dignitaries and parishioners. The National Flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest Mr. Fredrick Fernandes, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A brief introduction about the Chief Guest was given by the ICYM Vice President Ms. Evania Veigas. Messages on patriotism, love for the nation, and the responsibilities of citizens were delivered by the the Chief Guest, Mr. Fredrick Fernandes and Fr. Daniel Veigas. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation. Vote of Thanks was delivered by the ICYM Secretary Ms. Freya Jovita Mendonca, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, clergy, parish council members, ICYM and YCS members, and parishioners for their presence and support.

This was followed by the cultural programm, where the ICYM and YCS members presented singing and dance performances with great enthusiasm. The performances added joy and vibrancy to the celebration and were appreciated by everyone present. The programme concluded with the distribution of sweets to all the parishioners. The Independence Day celebration was a memorable and meaningful event that brought the parish community together in a spirit of patriotism, unity, joy, and gratitude
