Celebration of Independence Day 2025

The ICYM and YCS members of St. Dominic Church celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2025 with great zeal and patriotism. The celebration commenced soon after the 7:15 a.m. Mass. The programme was compered by Riona Lasrado. The Chief Guest of the day, Mr. Maxim Crasta, along with the Parish Priest Fr. Daniel Veigas, Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Meckenzie Mendonsa, and other Dominican fathers, Deborah Locker, the Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, and Meera Mendonca, the Coordinator of 21 Commissions were ceremoniously escorted by Nash Rodrigues and Joel Lobo, after which the National Flag was hoisted amidst patriotic fervor.

A warm welcome speech was delivered by Wilona Dsouza, the ICYM President, followed by Melroy Dsouza, who introduced the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest Mr Maxim Crasta then addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech, after which the Parish Priest Fr Daniel Veigas shared his meaningful message on the significance of the day.

The formal programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Cultural Seanna Dsouza, the Secretary. Following this, the ICYM members along with YCS staged a cultural programme featuring a patriotic dance and song performance, which was well appreciated by the parishioners. The programme ended with the distribution of sweets, spreading a spirit of joy, patriotism, and togetherness among all present.

St. Dominic Church Ashoknagar ICYM Unit also actively participated in the “Frames of Freedom” an online photography competition organized by the Episcopal City Deanery. The members came together to depict the Swadeshi Movement, displaying their creativity and teamwork. The results were announced on 15th August, and we are proud to share that St. Dominic Church, Ashoknagar, secured the 1st place in the competition.
