Inauguration of Catechism year 2019-20(On 9th June 2018)
The academic catechism year was inaugurated on the 9th of June 2019 at the Eucharistic celebration at 8 am. The theme for the year is “Nature is our Mother and our teacher- Way to Faith Education.”
A procession comprising of catechists, a family, youth entered carrying the bible, plants, pots and water which was kept at a prominent place near the altar. The candles were lit where the bible was placed to symbolize the importance of the Word of God in our lives and the light which brings forth knowledge.
The lamp was lit by the parish priest Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha, the assistant parish priest Rev. Fr. Royston Lobo, vice president & secretary- Mr. Richard Gonsalves & Isaac Furtado, two of the senior teachers, a parent and student.
The plants were repotted and water was put by the children which emphasized the need to grow plants, nurture them and help in restoring our ecology. In the same way the faith of the children and youth needs to be nurtured from time to time and with the guidance of the parents and teachers help them grow into strong men and women of faith.
The liturgy was organized by the catechism teachers. We were privileged to have with us 5 newly ordained Dominican priests who offered their first mass in our parish. The main celebrant of the Eucharist was Fr. Xavier Dias OP and Fr. Avil Lobo OP preached the homily who highlighted on the feast of Pentecost and the importance of growth and development of faith in one’s life.
