Pastoral Visit 04 – 05, November 2023

Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore

St. Dominic Church, Ashoknagar celebrated Pastoral Visit by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore on 04th and 05th November, 2023.

Hi Grace was warmly welcomed by the Parish Priest Fr. Daniel Veigas and Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Dileep Veigas, The Vice President Mr. Maxim Crasta, Secretary Mrs. Deborah Locker and Coordinator of the 21 Commissions Mrs. Meera Mendonca with the presence of Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Finance Council and the Parishioners.

Solemn procession marked the entry of all to the Church for Pastoral rite prayers, followed by Eucharistic celebration. In the Pastoral rite, the Parish Priest, offered incense as a sign of liturgical respect. Bishop then blessed the faithful with sprinkling of Holy Water. Crucifix was given to the Bishop to acknowledge his visit as a sign of the Risen Lord to bring the Good News to all. Pascal candle light was given to the Bishop from which the Parish Priest, Asst. Parish Priest and all Parish Council members lit their candles. Plenary Indulgences of the Pastoral Visit were granted to all.

The Eucharist was concelebrated with priests from Dominican Priory Ashoknagar. Special prayers were offered for elderly and sick of the parish.

Meetings with Parish Finance Council and Parish Pastoral Council were held as part of this visit.


Day Two: 05 November, 2023

Second day of visit began with Catechetical instructions on Sanctity of Church, Sacraments and liturgical celebrations. Interactions with the Bishop and his teachings brought light upon many aspects of the faith. This was followed by Eucharistic celebration.

During the day following programs were held:
• Meeting with various Associations of the Parish
• Visit to the Religious Communities in the Parish
• Visit to nominated families of the Sick
• Visit and Basic Ecclesiastical Community meeting at Kottara

His Grace then returned to St. Dominic Church for a short prayer with the Dominican brothers and some parishioners present and then bid farewell to return to his residence.

A fruitful and Spirit filled two days of pastoral visit was appreciated by the parishioners.
