SVP Ashoknagar Unit – Ashram Visit to Snehalaya

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”

On Sunday 24th February 2019 SVP members of St Dominic Church Ashoknagar along with our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha visited Snehalaya Ashram which is located at Manjeshwar Kasaragod district Kerala. Snehalaya psycho social Rehabilitation Centre is well known Ashram for the homeless deprived, abused, old and young male and female. This is run by Mr Joseph Crasta and his family. There are 140 males and 60 females. Most of them are collected from the roadside who have nobody to look after and were suffering from various diseases and were neglected by the family members. These people are nicely looked after by giving them proper medicines, love, prayer, understanding and support.

There is a chapel in the Ashram with a Priest who conducts mass and prayers daily. This Ashram is well maintained clean and hygenic. People who recover from here have been sent to their homes. People who don't have their own home continue serving in the Ashram. Mr. Joseph Crasta, the managing trustee prepares daily lunch for about 700 people and distributes at Wenlock government hospital for the people who looks after the patients. He helps people without seeing cast and creed.

SVP members of St. Dominic Church Ashoknagar unit spent some time with the inmates, distributed bun and handed over a Cheque of Rs. 6000/. The Parish Priest, Fr. Aquin Noronha prayed and blessed them all. All praised God for such a nice family of Mr. Joseph Crasta for giving such a selfless service to the society.
